Toon De Pessemier

Toon De Pessemier was born on the 5th of January 1983. He went to primary and secundary school in Aalst. Next, he studied at the university of Ghent where he obtained his diploma "Master of Computer Science Engineering" in 2006. A few months later, he began to work for the Wireless and Cable research group (now WAVES) of professor Martens. From the first of October of the year 2007, he was a Ph. D. student of the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) for four years.

In 2013, he obtained a PhD on his research topic "improved online services by personalized recommendations and optimal quality of experience parameters". In 2015, he obtained a BOF scholarship at Ghent University. The title of his research work is "Design and validation of innovative techniques to assist people in the decision making process by analyzing data of user behavior and contextual features". From 2018 he teaches the course "Recommender Systems" at Ghent University for final year students in informatics and engineering. In October 2018, he became a part-time professor in the research domain of recommender systems.

His current research interests include recommender systems and personalization in general with specific focuses on context-aware, real-time, and group recommendations as well as the combination of human intelligence and recommendation algorithms.
